pregnant woman having backacheOne often-asked question in our practice is “How safe is chiropractic during pregnancy”?

Our answer to this is not only is it safe but extremely effective. Many women experience back pain during pregnancy due to the extra and unusual weight and stresses placed on the low back. Many times we see this in the sacroiliac joints, or what many people call the hip joints just below and on either side of the low back. A chiropractic adjustment on pregnant women is carried out gently and with the extra care so as not to create any detrimental effect on the expectant mom or baby.  In doing so we are able to provide our expectant mothers with relief from their discomfort.

In addition, there are studies that show by providing a consistent program of chiropractic care for the mom-to-be in pregnancy the nervous system and spine display healthy benefits before, during and after the birth. There are many instances of mothers saying the ease of their labor was due to the chiropractic care they received while pregnant.

Regular adjustments as deemed necessary by your chiropractor should be highly considered if you are experiencing this type of pain. Post natal chiropractic has also been found to have beneficial effects for new moms.

In short, and as a general rule, chiropractic care may be applied safely through all stages of pregnancy and thereafter.

Schluter Chiropractic works on the principle of reducing interference so the nervous system and body can work better. Providing that any symptom or condition (including pain) is occurring as a result of nerve interference from vertebral subluxation, there is a very good chance that it will improve with chiropractic care.
