New Business Takes On Low Back Pain
Tulsa, Oklahoma, 12/13/10 – According to The American Chiropractic Association, 70 to 85 percent of all people will have back pain at some point in their life. Low back pain is the fifth most common reason for all physician visits in the United States which means there is at least $50 Billion per year spent on back pain—and that’s just for the more easily identified costs. A recent study, however, has shown that low back pain care initiated with a doctor of chiropractic (DC) saves 40 percent on health care costs when compared with care initiated through traditional medicine. The study, “Cost of Care for Common Back Pain Conditions Initiated With Chiropractic Doctor vs. Medical Doctor/Doctor of Osteopathy as First Physician: Experience of One Tennessee-Based General Health Insurer,” which is available online and will also be published in the December 2010 issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, looked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee’s intermediate and large group fully insured population over a two-year span. The results of the study showed a nearly 40 percent savings when starting care with a chiropractor and estimated a $2.3 million savings for BCBS of Tennessee if they were to allow DC initiated care.
“Low back pain tends to be the primary complaint we see in chiropractic offices”, states Dr. Jason Schluter, a chiropractor in Tulsa, “which makes this study very important when you consider the events taking place right now concerning healthcare and insurance. As doctors of chiropractic, we are very aware that not only is the cost of our care often lower but it also helps avoid altogether more costly interventions such as drugs and surgery”.
Dr. Schluter brings a passion for Chiropractic care to the Tulsa area and strives to promote optimal health in each and every patient while maintaining a family friendly atmosphere in his office. Dr. Schluter has opened a new chiropractic clinic, Schluter Chiropractic, specializing not only in low back pain but an array of problems caring for all different types and ages of patients. A graduate of Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Dr. Schluter has over 4,800 hours of educational and clinical study. Dr. Schluter practices a technique of chiropractic known as the Gonstead Technique which is a gentle, effective technique that is specific, precise and accurate in evaluating and adjusting the spine.
Dr. Schluter is a life-long resident of Tulsa. He is just one of three chiropractors in his family including his father, Dr. Eric Schluter in Tulsa and his uncle, Dr. Marc Schluter in Bartlesville.
